This note comes from Ron Zimmer, GDoe #19, with greetings from California:

Greetings from Southern California.

Work has brought me back to the Los Angeles/Long Beach area of Southern California, and once again I am using my evenings to visit local Job's Daughters Bethels and DeMolay Chapters.

In the last two weeks I have been to seven Bethels and one area wide council get together. The Bethels have been #290 Garden Grove, #244 Downey, #241 Norwalk, #273 Manhattan Beach, #50 Redondo Beach, #295 El Segundo and #56 Huntington Beach. Missouri Jobie greetings have been extended to all.

For the Missouri Grand Reps to California, if I can make any contacts for you, send me an e-mail with your request. Right now it looks like I’ll be out here most of the time for the next four or five months. I’ll drop a few notes in here from time to time and probably have some articles and pictures in Bethel 19’s OWL. You can call the OWL up from Bethel #19’s page on this site.

If you are planning a trip out here, I will be glad to help you and your chaperone plan your visits. Note that most Bethels are dark during August.

Having fun reading Dad Underwood’s Supreme Diaries. Looking forward to hearing how well all of the Missouri Daughters did in their competition. It sounds like the Missouri Team did well. Have a good Workshop, I may make it in for Masonic Youth Day on the 11th and I hope to see many of you there.

This note comes from Mom Helen Kramer, regarding pins from the Supreme Guardian:

I recently received some of the pins that Supreme Guardian Denise handed out at mini session. She did not have enough with her at the time and so she has now sent me some more to get to the daughters that did not get on at Mini.

If the Guardians will please let me know how many daughters attending mini session did not get a pin I will do my best to get the out to them. This will be on a first come - first serve basis - - or if they can give me a count - I will contact Denise to see if she has any more.

This note comes from Colleen Vezeau, CH #43, regarding her new granddaughter:

Everyone - wanted to drop in to let you know, our Daughter Sam (Samantha), PHQ of 43 went in the hospital to have their first born child and our first grandchild. Sam was hoping to have her on 7-7-07. Due date was July 19th. Go figure, I was about 2 weeks late with both of mine, she ends up about 2 weeks early. Well, Sam got her wish. On 7-7-07 we received a phone call from Tony (Son In Law) informing us that Kierstyn Rebekka Breeding born 7:36 a.m. our time, 8:36 a.m. their time in NC. Weighing in at 6 lbs 9 oz, 19 inches long, Auburn hair and blue eyes.

Momma, Daddy and Kierstyn are all doing fine. While speaking to Sam the evening of 7-7-07 she sounded tired, but pepped up a little bit on different topics of conversation.

This note comes from Mom Marlene Frakes, PSG-MO, regarding beds at Supreme Session:

Beware if you made reservations at the Radisson in Merrillville, Indiana for a 2 Double Bed or a King with sofa and just put your name on it, you may find you have been switched to a King. This has happened to me and I now have a King room with 3 women sharing.

It has also happen to KS and CO people. Better to check now than to get to the Radisson and find out then.

For those who are planning to attend the summer SLALOC meeting next Sunday--some of our great group is planning to accompany Momma Donna (and maybe Dad Beal) on a visit to the St. Louis Zoo. Many know that the GG and AGG have become the proud parents of a Baby Giraffe and a Komodo Dragon through adoption! We are going in search of our new wards and may find Diane's Polar Bear in our walk--so please join us--remember the great St. Louis Zoo is free and would be a great prospect activity!

This note comes from Mom Carolyn Block, PGG-KS, regarding her rooming situation at Supreme Session:

Dear Friends -

HELP please.......... I just got word that my roommate for Supreme Session dumped me and I have no roommate. Do any of you know of anyone in your delegation who has a room that could take one more person. I'm not asking to crowd into your room, I'm just looking for a room that could take one more person. I promise I would be nice and wouldn't cause trouble. I just need a place to put my head and plug in my C-Pap machine. Of course, I will pay my share of the room. I just can't afford to pay the price of a room by myself. It doesn't have to be with some one I know, but some one I could get to know.

My usual traveling buddy Cindy Harwood was elected as our Grand Marshal, but do to work schedule can't go this year.

Thanks for your help.

Just a quick reminder to Bethels. Every Bethel was asked to donate one item to a charity basket that will be the joint charity project for Grand Bethel and Grand Guardian Council next year. All proceeds from it will go to the American Heart Association. Bethels may give their donation to Momma Donna, Dad Albert, GBSP Diane at Grand Session or to Mom Brenda Carpenter who will be coordinating the project. Tickets will be available Sunday morning and throughout the next year from any Grand Bethel Officer or Grand Officer. The drawing for the winner will be at the Formal Banquet 2008. Lots of great items have already been added to the basket--Thank you to all who help with this project!

This note comes from Mom Patti Brand, PGG-MO, regarding her knees:

Good evening to all!

Just sending out a report about my visit with the orthopedic surgeon from this afternoon.

Well, as suspected (but was hoping NOT to be this way), all parties agree that the best thing for my poor, young, terribly arthritic knee would be a total knee replacement.

For those of you who are not aware of the situation -- last Monday, 6/6/07, after being seated for too long of a while, I stood up only to realize that the back of my right knee had locked and wouldn't release -- painful to say the least. It has been going on and having a little release here and there, but always back to the way it was. I made an appt. with a doc on Wed., and his finding were the same as the one today -- very arthritic right knee (left one not as bad), and something floating around and getting caught between the bone on bone rubbing on the right outer side of the knee. I've been using a cane since last Tuesday to help with the pain it is causing.

Therefore, a surgeon was seen today by John & I, as well as his nurse practitioner. There is no hope for a clean out by arthroscopic; not recommending a treatment of synvisc unless I am very demanding; NO on the uni-knee as it will only give me a few years; AND a total knee replacement would be the best thing to do. The NP said that the exercises in the books he gave us would possibly help in the strengthening and upkeep of the leg so it is not stiff before going into surgery. A walker (with big wheels) might be helpful in getting around and would be less strenuous on my right shoulder and elbow than the cane. Might help me walk a bit quicker too. He did not recommend a wheelchair -- doesn't want stiffness setting in.

I had a cortisone shot last week and have gotten a brace to wear when doing a lot of walking or standing. Still need to think about the synvisc, and make plans for the very near future. At this time, it is tentatively in our minds that this will be done at or near the beginning of August (before school starts) -- no date set in stone yet.

Will keep you all posted as things progress. I will be at Grand and unless something major comes up, will be taking Daniella to Supreme as planned.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for everything!

Love,
Patti & John
Daniella & Nathaniel

This note comes from Pam Johnson, Grand Librarian, regarding Sign Language Judges:

I have been working for the last month and a half to locate sign language judges.  I've chased down many of the names on my list and many of them are no longer coming to Grand Session.  Some are Judging for Ritual and some are involved with the Grand Bethel Trio and their Advisory group.  I've contacted William Woods and they have no students in session this summer so the head of the department put me in touch with a group in Columbia that works with the deaf.  I've contacted them about judges and they were going to see if they could find someone.  I will contact them again tomorrow, but as of right now I'm out of contact information and ideas as to where to go if they say no.  If you have any suggestions please let me know right away and I'll be glad to contact them.  I'll check my e-mail a couple of times yet tonight.  My home phone is 573-243-0103 and my cell phone is 573-450-6156.

This note comes from Mom Marlene Frakes, PSG-MO, with an update on Joy Heaton, GG-IL:

Hi Marlene;

I just talked to someone who talked to Joy today. Joy did have a stroke, & apparently had had 2 or 3 previously, unknown, maybe even to Joy herself. She will be in speech therapy. She does have her wits about her,& is cognizant. I heard from Jean Owen there might be some blockage, perhaps in the carotid artery, & family will be talking to the surgeons in the next day or two. If I hear anything , I will let you know.  Thanks for your concern, & your prayers. I will be sure Joy is aware of this.

This comes from Momma Donna Goede, VGG, regarding the GG of Illinois:

Yesterday [6/9/2007] Dad Albert and I attended Illinois Grand Guardian Council Installation. Their new Grand Guardian, Joy Heaton, had not been feeling well all day. During the installation she was very frail and the Jr. Past GG presided through the entire ceremony. At the end of the event Joy was taken directly to the hospital where early evaluations seems to indicate she had a stroke during her installation. Please ask our Jobie world to pray for quick recovery.

Thanks,
