Work with each member to determine her own "niche"
within the Bethel
Remember that as a person grows older, this niche will change.
With experience comes personal growth, new interests and needs.
Pay attention to every girl for whom you are serving as a leader
Sometimes it's easier just to acknowledge the achievers, the leaders,
the malcontents and the perpetual questioners but make sure the shy and
quiet ones get attention, too.
Delegate responsibility
Consider how much responsibility each member is capable of handling and
then determine what tasks will enable them to be the best they can
be. Don't limit responsibility solely because of age - a mature
eleven year old could potentially handle as much responsibility as a
typical thirteen year old.
Provide opportunity and encourage initiative
Young people need supervision and limits but they also need the freedom
to make their own choices and to be responsible for their own mistakes
(to a degree). They learn best from their own experience - they
grow as they are given opportunity.
Work with members to establish Bethel and individual goals
Everyone involved in the Bethel should help set Bethel goals. work
with each of the members individually to ensure that the Bethel goals
are compatible with their personal goals.
Recognize the achievements and progress of the Bethel and the
individual members
Everyone likes to be recognized for "a job well done."
However, when looking for ways to recognize a member's achievement, take
into account her age, personality and maturity. Of course, you
should only do this when the individual or group deserves it. |
